The city of Palermo has decided to adopt a Smart City model to address the challenges related to land management and citizen safety. The Control Room is the beating heart of this new system, the reference point for all monitoring and control activities.
Installed in the Local Police Headquarters of Palermo, in a modern and technologically advanced building, the Control Room occupies an area of 200 square meters and is equipped with a 30 square meter video wall.
The 16 monitors of the Bosco Videowall System allow operators to monitor what is happening in the city and make mission critical decisions in real time. Thanks to an intelligent video surveillance system and an innovative georeferenced web-based platform, the Control Center is able to demonstrate immediate emergency response reactivity.
“The Control Room presents itself as a technological platform capable of communicating and collaborating with the other operational centers of the police forces, while for citizens it will represent a system from which to collect useful information and with which they can interact in real time”, said Roberto Lagalla, mayor of Palermo.
Bosco was responsible for the 360° design and construction of the Control Room, the Meeting Room and the Operations Center of the Palermo Police. We followed the project from the very early stages, when the construction of the building was still being completed!
Bosco has carefully designed the control workstations (consoles) and the large video wall taking into account appropriate considerations, including ergonomics and human factors.
For the main control room, we have created 3 graded Consoles Series 2000S for 9 operators, each equipped with 3 monitors, and a large Videowall 1000 Base made up of 16 55-inch monitors. The large dimensions of the video wall depend on the need to simultaneously view and manage the many applications connected to the Wall Controller (cameras, sensors, computers and more).
Adjacent to the control room, Bosco has created a meeting room equipped with a Videowall 1000 Base made up of 4 55-inch monitors.
Through a Bosco technology Touchpad it is possible to project, on the meeting room Videowall, the information coming from one or more monitors on the control room Videowall. Both Videowalls are in fact managed by a single Wall Controller which controls the 20 monitors installed in the two rooms.
On the meeting table top we have installed a flush-mounted smart whiteboard, which is used during meetings to project information on the Videowall.
