Enel power plant of Fusina, located on the Venice lagoon, has made a notable change in status: from being considered an undervalued installation, with an annual consumption of one million tons of coal, it has transformed into the most innovative thermoelectric power plant of Italy.
Following ENEL's commitment to decommission the coal plants by 2025, and in particular the Fusina plant by 2023, the power plant was redeveloped through the replacement of the coal units with a new CCGT methane unit.
Using natural gas as a primary source, the plant is able to provide energy in a highly efficient way, thanks to the combination of gas turbines and heat recovery systems. “The power plant will have between 62 and 63% efficiency, much more than the previously existing thermoelectric park. A sustainable power plant that serves to balance the interruptibility of renewable sources" declared Nicola Monti, CEO of Edison.
The latest generation gas turbines represent a notable advance compared to traditional technologies: they not only guarantee high performance, but also contribute to minimizing emissions of CO2 and other air pollutants. Furthermore, the plant is designed to use hydrogen in anticipation of a future revamping to further reduce CO2.
A strategic industrial ecology process for Italy, with 340 million investments in advanced technologies and innovative management systems. This approach to energy is particularly relevant in a context in which European and national institutions are increasingly insisting on the importance of a low-emission energy mix.
As part of the project for the redevelopment of the thermoelectric power plant, Ansaldo Energia S.p.a. entrusted Bosco with the design of the new central control room for monitoring and managing signals, and of the large engineering room.
What is most striking about the control center is the beautiful pearl gray 2500XL Series control console with graded layout, which gives a dynamic and harmonious appearance to the room. The large control console is equipped with cabinets under the work surface to house the many electronic equipment and with a double top for monitor installation.
A Series 2000S 90°-angle console is positioned in the center of the room and behind the other control station, to allow for supervisory work. In the right corner of the room, we have provided a meeting table for consultation and discussion.
Ansaldo has chosen an elegant and ergonomic control room, with robust and spacious control consoles, which takes into account the relationships between operators and facilitates teamwork.
In addition to the main control center, we have furnished the engineering room of the Fusina thermoelectric power plant with two large linear consoles from the 2500XL Series. The two "twin" stations are arranged opposite to each other to facilitate the mutual exchange of information between operators.
