Air Products Qudra has chosen Bosco to design and build the central control room of a state-of-the-art industrial gases hub in Jubail Industrial City.
This significant investment by Air Products Qudra consists of the construction of: an industrial-sized steam methane reformer (SMR) to produce hydrogen, an air separation unit (ASU) to produce oxygen and nitrogen, a pressure absorption unit (PSA) to recover hydrogen from exhaust gases.
The SMR hydrogen production plant will support refineries and petrochemical industries to meet the growing demand in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia, will use the most advanced technology to maximize energy efficiency and reduce emissions, including optimal thermal integration to reduce the consumption of raw materials. The configuration of the plant and the technologies used will also contribute to Air Products sustainability objectives, aimed at reducing energy consumption and emissions.
The central control room of the SMR plant, built entirely by Bosco, is organized according to ergonomic principles into five work areas: control of the air separation unit (ASU), control of the steam reforming unit (SMR) , utilities, emergency response and meetings.
The positioning of these areas, and of the related furniture and equipment, aims to optimize the connections within the control room. The design of the center takes into account the frequency and type of contacts between operators, as well as the degree of importance and frequency of use of the control and information panels.
For the ASU and SMR area, we built two 2500XL series control consoles, with graded layout, which accommodate 3 operators each. In front of each control console there is a corresponding 2500XL series supervision workstation, with a linear arrangement. All control consoles are equipped with two monitors per operator, and canal racks under the work surface for housing electronic equipment.
For the emergency management area, we chose a long linear control console 2000s series. Equipped with spacious cabinets under the work surface to house SCADA systems and other electronic equipment, this technical desk is built to accommodate 4 operators.
