Leonardo Helicopters is a leading international group in aerospace, defense and security, with helicopters deployed in over 150 countries.
The company recently inaugurated two telemetry rooms at its aeronautical engineering center in Cascina Costa, Italy. These rooms represent a point of reference for the development and evaluation of helicopter telemetry systems and ensure the safety and efficiency of aerial operations.
Telemetry is a system that allows the performance and status of a helicopter in flight to be monitored in real time, allowing pilots to intervene in the event of an emergency and improve the management of the aircraft. Telemetry instruments installed on board the helicopter detect data such as speed, height, geographical position and fuel consumption, which are sent in real time to controllers on the ground.
Leonardo Helicopters telemetry rooms have been designed to simulate the real workflow of helicopters in flight, allowing engineers to evaluate and test telemetry systems in realistic conditions. The rooms are equipped with advanced simulators and multimedia displays that reproduce the flow of real-time informations received from the helicopter.
The telemetry rooms are also equipped with an augmented reality (AR) platform that allows users to view real-time data in 3D, improving understanding of helicopter performance and aiding in the evaluation of telemetry systems.
The AR technology used in the platform was developed by Leonardo Helicopters together with external partners and it is an example of the Italian company ability to innovate in the field of aviation.
To furnish the telemetry rooms, Leonardo chose the top of the range: the consoles Karma2 and the videowall system 1000 Base.
The two "twin" control rooms of Cascina Costa are imposing and elegant: a large curved console to accommodate 10 operators, 2 stand alone consoles for supervision, 2 monitors per workstation and a 8-monitors video wall with a cabinet base.
Two excellent control centers that facilitate the work of engineers through the management of the numerous applications and critical data flows, fundamental for telemetry analysis and the improvement of avionics systems.
